We think there’s something special about Maine and the power of community-based media. To us, they represent something that’s increasingly missing—an earnest and genuine connection to place, to nature, and to each other.

That’s why, in 2023, Maine publishing veterans Reade Brower and Kathleen Fleury Capetta brought together several companies to support the vision that quality local media and publishing is fundamental for building successful communities.

Together, this unique collection of companies helps make communities stronger by convening people and delivering information, insight and solutions for its citizens and businesses.

What we do today

Midcoast Villager: Building on a nearly two-hundred-year legacy of local journalism in Midcoast Maine, the Midcoast Villager launched in September 2024. The publication consolidated The Free Press, The Courier-Gazette, Village Soup, The Republican Journal and Camden Herald into one publication with the mission to connect people around the stories and journalism that matter most to Midcoast Maine.

Villager Cafe: The Villager Cafe is a new community hub opening Spring 2025 in Camden, Maine. It’s a coffee spot, grab-and-go breakfast standby, events space, and long lunch hang. It’s also home of the Midcoast Villager newsstand and the ideal place to connect with the community and hear the news on everyone’s mind. The Cafe is the latest offering of the Midcoast Villager newspaper, a physical space dedicated to serving the people of Midcoast Maine with the news of the day, meaningful live events, and a menu of classic dishes and local delights.

Islandport Press: Started in 1993, Islandport Press is a dynamic, award-winning publisher dedicated to stories rooted in the essence and sensibilities of New England.

Ellsworth American: The Ellsworth American, publishing since 1851, is a locally owned and managed weekly newspaper serving Hancock County, Maine. It is the oldest weekly newspaper in the county and the second oldest in Maine.

Mount Desert Islander: Sister paper to the Ellsworth American, the Mount Desert Islander each week covers every aspect of life on MDI, from what is going on in Acadia National Park to local governments, schools, community groups and the arts.

Mail New England: Mail New England helps small- and medium-sized businesses grow their revenue and customer base through direct mail marketing.

R&K Hospitality: R&K currently manages Mulligan’s restaurant in Rockland and catering services, with more to come.

TravelMAINE Guides: Since the 1970s, TravelMAINE has been helping Maine visitors and businesses connect with the state with a series of guides and magazines.

One Community, Many Voices: One Community Many Voices (OCMV) is a 501c3 charity whose mission is to look out for others through a network of like-minded people who carry out simple acts of kindness.
